PAHASKA
CONTEMPORARY/CHAMBER FOLK/JAZZ
PAHASKA consists of Emma Swensson (SWE), Anne Marte Eggen (NO) and Sille Jörgensen Ellehammer (DK). Three friends who met 10 years ago in Malmö and started playing music together without any expectations on genre or sound. The instrumentation is unusual, perhaps unique and consists of oboe, tenor saxophone, clarinet, english horn and double/electric bass.
All of the members have a past and habit of travelling with their instrument, meeting different cultures, jamming and learning new music and maybe that’s what brought the trio together, an openness for new mixes and each persons voice, without any expectations on sound or fitting in the box. The trio created most of the arrangements together but Emma Swensson takes a leading roll in composing and preparing arrangements.
Naked melodies with both forceful and fragile tones of air - filled woodwind balancing on a lonesome bass. It can be described as compositions written with inspiration from folk music and interpreted with elements of jazz, some sort of modern/chamber folk/jazz.
Pahaska means long hair on Sioux.
